Aotearoa Toa Ninja Warrior Competition Rules

General Rules:

  • Before the event, athletes must have completed the Flow Academy of Motion waiver, agreeing to the terms and conditions and entering emergency contact details. www.flowacademy.co.nz/signup 

  • Athletes are responsible for knowing, understanding, and following the Competition Rules (outlined below).

Competition Rules

    • Show respect towards all event officials and other users of the course.

    • Obey all instructions from marshals and officials.

    • Practise good sportsmanship at all times.

    • No pushing or unsportsmanlike conduct.

    • No attempt to gain an unfair advantage.

    • Athletes must be drug and alcohol free whilst taking part in this event.

    • Complete the event with all clothing and gear they start with.

    • Shoes are recommended but barefeet can be worn.

    • No headphones, cell phones, or music devices while competing.

    • Do not tamper with race obstacles or equipment.

    • Inform organisers if unable to start after checking in

    • Inform organisers if unable to finish after starting.

    • Failure to comply with rules may result in disqualification.

    • Appeals regarding penalties or results must be brought to the Head Official within 30 minutes of the course ending.

    • Aotearoa Toa reserves the right to change race standings or decisions post-event.

    • Course, obstacles types of attempts, assistance, and penalties vary based on the course type.

    • All obstacles can only be attempted twice

    • There is a 3 minute time limit per course

    • Obstacles have specific completion rules including requirements for reaching checkpoints.

    • Your referee will explain the check points for each obstacle, such as; completing an obstacle in control, touching a specific piece of equipment such as a crash mat, landing platform or hanging obstacle.

    • Obstacles must be attempted with an honest attempt to complete them.

    • If after 2 honest attempts the obstacle is still incomplete it will be marked with a DNC for that obstacle.

    • After a DNC you will be moved forward by the referee to the start of the next checkpoint.

    • No outside assistance except in the case of injury or medical emergency or non competitive athletes on Green course and Blue Courses.

    • Athletes must stick to their designated course. Cutting the course is not permitted and will result in an attempt being used.

    • Referees will explain what can and can’t be used for each obstacle.

    • Red course athletes may only use the Red coloured obstacles.

    • Green course athletes can use Green and Red coloured obstacles

    • Blue course athletes can use Blue, Green and red coloured obstacles

    • Some or all of the course may be accessed prior to the event for participants to practise during open sessions or booking time slots at flow

    • On the day of the competition if time allows; athletes may be given an allotted amount of time to inspect and try obstacles on the course, during this time be respectful of others and the conduct rules still apply.

    • In some instances there may be no time to practise the course.

    • Placings will be in order of: Number of Attempts on obstacles then Total Time

    • For example Athlete A completes the entire course in 3:35 with 3 total obstacle attempts across the course

    • Athlete B competes the entire course in 3:12 with 5 total obstacle attempts

    • Athlete A is placed 1st and Athlete B is placed 2nd 

    • Places will be given for each age group category in each course for Males, Female and Non Binary athletes
